dirty-projectors-coverart

if you haven’t heard anything from the Dirty Projectors’ newest album, go buy it now on iTunes. now. do it.
it’s well worth it. aside from the awesome art, the album is full of really fun and intricate melodies and  varied measure and rhythm that you’re constantly kept guessing, but never lost. the liberties taken with some of the beats and the rhythm open your eyes to new possibilities, and it’s really freeing how the emphasis and syncopation dance around the measure, close to ignoring it, but always coming back on time at the perfect moment.
it’s a great album, and i’ve been listening to it since it came out, only now getting around to posting about it.
here’s one of my favorite songs to give you a taste of what the deal is:

stillness is the move – the dirty projectors

awesome, right? i know. that’s why i suggested them. anyway, check out the album on iTunes. it’s all golden.
(on a side note, they also did a few songs on the Red Hot Compilation, Dark Was the Night. if you haven’t heard about that, please get out from under that rock and buy it.)

i’ve got you and you’ve got me

i think i’ve gotten into a habit of not posting as much as i wish i did… and when i do post, it’s usually a video. it’s because i like the videos, they’re good, and i think you will enjoy them. that’s what it’s all about. i like to bring it back to the basics every once in a while.
this is a song by New Buffalo, who i’ve really been digging tonight, and they’ve got this video for the song called “I’ve got you and you’ve got me” and it was remixed by Broken Social Scene. (i guess. i don’t exactly know what that really means)
anyway, good song and good video. it was shot on a kodak 16mm, which i love. it just feels real.
