Tamara Lichtenstein

I just stumbled across this photographer, Tamara Lichtenstein, on flickr, and I loved her work so much that I wanted to spread the word. Her photographs have a very stylized nature to them, a style that may or may not be a fad (you can debate that one if you want) but they’re beautiful nonetheless. Some of them look like they may have been taken with a disposable camera, and some of them have been double exposed for effect, but it’s never too much or too little. Each style is used in just the right setting. This is the photography I would be doing if I had the time.

Scroll through the photos above or go check out more of her photos.

Underground Swiss Home

This is one of the most organic, simple and pleasing underground designs I’ve seen in a long time. The house is carved right into the swiss countryside with a spectacular view of the Alps. Even the details in the mouth of the opening and inside the house are a perfect synthesis of organic material and beautiful minimalist swiss design.

Broken Bells

Broken Bells is the new collaboration between James Mercer of The Shins and Danger Mouse. There’s not much more I need to say about it, or really can say because of the limited information available, but the album is scheduled for a March 9, 2010 release.

I’ve uploaded the single, called The High Road. Here, have a listen:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The High Road – Broken Bells

The song definitely has that Shins feel with the way the melody lines are written, but what is most evident to me is the Danger’s signature style all throughout. When two great musicians come together like this, the product is bound to be top notch.

You can get the single on iTunes. Keep checking the Broken Bells website to stay current, and you can pre-order the album in a variety of ways. I just ordered the limited edition box and the vinyl.

Spacious Thoughts

Bobby posted this over on Kitsune Noir a while back, and I just got around to watching it, but this video is truly stunning. NASA did a song called Spacious Thoughts, and a graphics group called Flourescent Hill did the music video for it. Flourescent Hill is made up of Montreal based Mark Lomond and Johanne Ste-Marie, and they do commercials, music videos and short films.

Every frame of this video is beautiful, and it seems to fit the style of music perfectly.

Mike Ballard

This is an art gallery opening in London at a gallery that will soon be torn down for the Crossrail system. The gallery’s last show, called All of Everything, will feature an artist named Mike Ballard, and it is incredible. The entire room has been painted, floor to ceiling, in black and white with an intricate graffiti/illustration style.

I can’t believe people will be walking on that floor, but even worse is that the entire building will be demolished in February, so this work of art will only last for a limited period of time.

Sculptural Photography

This is probably the coolest concept and execution I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a collaboration between Polish photographer, Szymon Roginsk and 3D artist, Kasia Korzeniecka. Basically, they’ve printed great photography onto 3D objects, and arranged them back into their original positions in interesting ways.

There isn’t much information, or a whole lot more images on this project… what I have is from Fubiz, so you can go check out more images there.

There’s a very vague “coming soon” link in the new section of Roginsk’s website, keep checking back to see when they release the full set of images.

Eiffel Tower Blueprints

The Eiffel Tower  website (stuff nobody knows ever heard of) just uploaded a set of reproductions of the original blueprints for the Eiffel Tower, and they’re nothing less than works of art.

You can check out more images like this over on LaTour Eiffel.
