Sarah DeShields

DeShields is a local photographer/artist who has some impressive work floating around on the web. I spent about 45 minutes browsing her Flickr stream and really enjoyed seeing familiar faces and her earthy style. It’s refreshing to see her work in an age where everyone and their cousin have an $800 camera and a website.

Check out more images.

Corey Arnold

Corey Arnold is both a commercial fisherman and lucky for us, also a photographer. His images are absolutely stunning, hilarious, sometimes a little gruesome, but all around beautiful. The colors are perfect, and the action has been captured with such perfect style that I instantly fell in love with this guy’s work.

Go check out his smokin’ hot website for more.

Tamara Lichtenstein

1 2 3 4 5

I just stumbled across this photographer, Tamara Lichtenstein, on flickr, and I loved her work so much that I wanted to spread the word. Her photographs have a very stylized nature to them, a style that may or may not be a fad (you can debate that one if you want) but they’re beautiful nonetheless. Some of them look like they may have been taken with a disposable camera, and some of them have been double exposed for effect, but it’s never too much or too little. Each style is used in just the right setting. This is the photography I would be doing if I had the time.

Scroll through the photos above or go check out more of her photos.

Sculptural Photography

This is probably the coolest concept and execution I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a collaboration between Polish photographer, Szymon Roginsk and 3D artist, Kasia Korzeniecka. Basically, they’ve printed great photography onto 3D objects, and arranged them back into their original positions in interesting ways.

There isn’t much information, or a whole lot more images on this project… what I have is from Fubiz, so you can go check out more images there.

There’s a very vague “coming soon” link in the new section of Roginsk’s website, keep checking back to see when they release the full set of images.

Bio-Diversity

This is a great set of photos by Christoph Niemann who is the illustrator for the New York Times. It’s a bunch of clever visual puns using different leaves, which I thought fitting given the season.

Go check out the rest of the photos.

Wayne Levin

Wayne Levin

This image has been all over the internet, and every time I see it, it catches my eye. I finally tracked down the source, and it turns out it’s by this photographer named Wayne Levin. He shoots all underwater scenery, featuring fish, whales, sharks, dophins, humans and other creatures. They’re all in black and white, and they’re all beautifully elegant and tranquil. It’s amazing that Levin can get such perfect images in such an uncontrolled environment.

I lost track of time perusing his website.

The Wilco Loft

The Wilco Loft

Here’s a really cool article over on LoftLife featuring Wilco’s music loft in Chicago. It’s full of instruments and books and also bunk beds. Basically, they’ve set up an environment where they can practice or record their music in perfect acoustic situations. It looks like a ton of fun to hang out there. In fact, I wouldn’t mind if Wilco invited me up for a bit of a jam session.

You can check out more photos here.
